I raised up this issue in the context of the nLab, but this can be more widely applied to everyday mathematical practice. Some mathematicians change their name for whatever reason, but many of their old papers are still published under their old name. When citing their old paper, should we use their old name or new name?

"Cf. the paper by Bernhard (now Brunhilde) Riemann, [Rie59]"
A citation is intended for a reader to be able to find the given reference, so it makes sense to at least use the name given in the original paper.
