Regarding online-talk technology, I much prefer zoom over youtube streaming. With everybody inside the same platform there is a feeling of being part of an audience. Youtube streaming is a more lonesome experience. I think a zulip chat cannot quite compensate for that.
@Paolo Perrone @Brendan Fong @David Spivak do y'all think it'd be good to try Zoom for next Thursday? MIT is providing free Pro zoom, and my experience is that non-MIT folks can join
Yep, we are thinking about it, and there seems to be a way to do both at the same time. I'll keep you updated :)
I'm talking at MIT next Thursday, and before that, Paolo is going to show me what to do. I'm happy to do whatever he wants! But he'd better decide before he shows me.

Hi Paolo,
thanks for your work in both cases! It is already a privilege to be able to assist from a distance.
When pushing a bit for zoom, I admit I am also thinking of myself as a speaker in a few weeks time. I think it would be great at least to be able to see a few faces in the audience. I think John said something like that too, in the minutes before his talk yesterday. But also as a participant: yesterday it was a nice experience to greet some other participants, like you would in a real talk. It was nice to hear questions in real time, and see the face of the person asking them.
Thanks again for making all this possible. Also to Christian and Joe in Riverside.
Hey all. I've just tested this "double option" with John, and it works like a charm!
So yes, from next week we'll be on Zoom and YouTube Live :)
Thanks to everyone for the feedback by the way! It's great to have so many tips for improvement as we go.
According to Paolo only channels with $$\ge 1000$ subscribers can do this Zoom/YouTube combo.
Yeah, afaik only channels with more than 1000 subscribers can livestream. I may be wrong of course. Or does anybody know if Zoom can add an exception?
