What are good ones, containing the proof, besides the classic "Categories for the working mathematician"?
John Baez (Feb 08 2022 at 20:03):Johnson and Yau's free book 2-Dimensional Categories has a good modern proof of the coherence theorem for bicategories, which includes the theorem for monoidal categories as a special case. Their proof uses the bicategorical Yoneda lemma, which I find 'cleaner' than the original nuts-and-bolts proof by Mac Lane. However, the nuts-and-bolts proof is still very much worth understanding.
