Ok I think I feel quite comfortable with Schreiber's take on yoneda now, and it also makes a lot of intuitive sense! As far as I can tell, the idea is to view presheaves as "probe-able objects" and natural transformations as "probe-able morphisms" - essentially you're taking the collage of the evaluation profunctor $[\mathcal{C}^\text{op}, \mathbf{Set}] \to \mathcal{C}$
