Has anybody else found that the eptcs template is broken? I just downloaded a fresh copy from eptcs.org
and it complains of a missing file letterpaper.sty
..... I wonder if that's something that used to be included with MacTeX but now is not
Uh, does it change from year to year? I've shamelessly copied the one we used last year
Never mind, I am in fact an idiot
Speaking of which - we never advertised the ACT call for papers here! I hope nobody is surprised by this. The deadline was just extended by 2 days, to next Wednesday
I did my best to advertise the call for papers on Twitter and my blogs... I'm not going to tell my coauthors that the deadline has been extended, I want our paper done today.
@Christian Williams and I were never able to get the eptcs template to work, so I'll only attempt that when it's absolutely necessary.
@Matteo Capucci (he/him) the template doesn’t change much, but it’s slowly getting better, latest here

Nice, that's a bit helpful :grinning:
btw, what does the "abstract deadline" (as opposed to the "submission deadline") refer to? Are there different deadlines for the proceedings track and the presentation track?

By the way, "next Wednesday" is this Wednesday, May 11 2022.
Yes, there are two tracks for submissions, as explained on the conference webpage.

It is true that there are two tracks for submissions, but the deadlines are the same for both. The "abstract deadline" (now hopefully clarified to "title and abstract deadline") also applies to both of them, and refers to a plea for the submission of just the title and a short (~ one-paragraph) abstract of the planned full submission. The idea is that reviewing duties can then be distributed among the Program Committee as soon as possible based on these short abstracts, leaving more time for reviewers to check the correctness of proofs etc.
The title and abstract submission deadline is soon, at , and the full submission deadline two days later at .
I see "Tuesday" and "Thursday" in Fredrik's post here, so I'll just warn everyone that the conference website says
Title and Abstract deadline: Monday 9 May
Full submission deadline: Wednesday 11 May
If these deadlines are "anywhere in the world", maybe this is consistent with what Fredrik wrote.
To play it safe, I recommend having already submitted your abstract.
Zulip should show you the above "Anywhere on Earth" times in your local time zone. If you are currently on Howland or Baker Island, that will be one minute to midnight on Monday (and Wednesday, respectively), but for many of us, it will be Tuesday (and Thursday) instead.Personally I like to think of an Anywhere on Earth deadline as being at the end of the day in my timezone, with the day ending early in the morning of the next day if required.
Okay, my suspicions were correct, it all makes sense. So if I sought maximal procrastination I'd postpone my full submission to 4:59 am Pacific Daylight Time on Thursday May 12th, and worry about whether that's the time I need to start my submission or the time I need to finish it. :nervous: But in fact I did my submissions last week.

Missed this message before, but if you face any problems with the template, please file an issue at https://github.com/EPTCS/style/issues I recently started volunteering to improve EPTCS TeX infrastructure.
@Fredrik Nordvall Forsberg how do we go about submitting Title and Abstract? On EasyChair I'm asked to upload a file as well
That field should be optional
Unless the time zone settings are slightly wrong, in which case we have a problem

Indeed you should just be able to submit without choosing to upload a file.

Thanks! That's good to know!
A lot of basic questions about ACT2022 are still not answered on the conference website, and some people are starting to go crazy wondering about these questions. Most of all:
I asked @Jules Hedgesabout this and he seemed to say yes, but unless this is on the conference website people can't make travel plans!
James Sheppard raised some other questions, too:
There are six working weeks between now and the conference. Prospective participants need to know such things as whether the conference will be in-person, on-line or hybrid and what fees if any will be charged. Then of course they need to be able to register so that they know they have a place, and make their travel and accommodation arrangements.
So:
Do people need to register to attend? If so, how should they do it?
Is there a fee? (I hope not.)
These need to be addressed on the conference website now.
There is now a call for participation here: #general: events > ACT 2022
tl;dr If you want to attend in person, please register at https://onlineshop.strath.ac.uk/conferences-and-events/science-faculty/computer-and-information-science/5th-international-conference-on-applied-category-theory-act-2022 and pay a nominal registration fee
Please copy in relevant places!
With a minimal amount of reading between the lines you can see the sort of reason things are happening so late. It seems nobody in the university can tell us what the current covid regulations are because they don't know either. We still really have no idea what the capacity of the room will be
The website has also be updated with this information
I'm very sorry to be the first ACT to charge a registration fee, even if it's very small. We needed to give ourselves the ability to limit registration later once anyone at the university can tell us how many people can be in the room, so this is a psychological nudge (like charging 20c for a plastic carrier bag) to stop people from registering if they don't really mean it
There are still covid restrictions in Scotland? I thought it was over in the UK, but I guess it is just England.
Rules requiring masks have just been reinstated in some California counties, so I imagine the future of COVID remains difficult to predict.
There's no regulations coming from the Scottish government, but there are coming from the university
