Hi, anyone have an idea when applications for the Adjoint School will open?
I haven't seen any official information on the Adjoint School. The organizing committee consists of Sophie Libkind, David Jaz Myers, Angeline Aguinaldo, and Elena di Lavore, while the steering committee consists of Brendan Fong and Daniel Cicala. So these would be the people to ask.
If you find out anything, please put the information here.
One other thing I know is that Spencer Breiner and Joe Moeller are serving as mentors for one of the courses, which will probably be on thermodynamics and category theory.
Thank you @John Baez , you're always incredibly helpful :)
Thanks so much for your interest @Sean Gloumeau! We are still gathering our team of mentors for the 2022 school, and I expect that we'll open the applications at the end of December or beginning of January.

Great! There should be a bunch of advertisement, too, of course - on the category theory mailing list, on blogs, Twitter, and especially in forums that can reach grad students who aren't already "in the loop".
Yes, there definitely will be a flurry of advertising when the time comes!
Applications for the Applied Category Theory 2022 Adjoint School are now open!
This is the fifth edition of the research school adjoint to the Applied Category Theory annual conference.
The Adjoint School aims to
The school has two components: a reading component, where participants read papers and meet virtually to present on them over the course of a few months (February to June), and a research component where participants meet with established researchers to work on a project together during the week of July 11-15 hosted at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow (UK). Please note that this meeting might be hybrid depending on the pandemic situation.
This year’s mentors and research projects are:
We will consider advanced undergraduates, PhD students, post-docs, as well as people working outside of academia. Members of groups which are underrepresented in the mathematics and computer science communities are especially encouraged to apply.
More information about the projects can be found at adjointschool.com/2022 and then start your application at adjointschool.com/apply.
Application deadline: Saturday, January 29, 2022.
Thanks from the organizers,
@Angeline Aguinaldo, @Elena Di Lavore , @David Jaz, and @Sophie Libkind
Great! But I don't see anything about the mentors and the research projects on the web page that people are likely to look at when they're trying to learn about the school:
http://adjointschool.com/about.html
Is there a web page I can point people to, that has the information you just posted here?
You can find the mentors and project descriptions at adjointschool.com/2022!
We are still finalizing the projects and readings for two of the projects, but they will be up on the website shortly.
Oh, great, I was looking at the wrong page.
@Sean Gloumeau - it's here!
Thank you so much for notifying me! I'll be completing the application over the next few weeks then :smile:
Great! I hope you also apply for the AMS category theory research projects, to double your chance of getting in somewhere:
Since the deadline is January 29... When will the other project descriptions be added?
Hi @Sophie El Agami, the project description for Nicoletta Sabadini's project has now been posted to the website! http://adjointschool.com/2022.html.
Unfortunately, we are still waiting on more details for our final project description. I will post a note here when it is up on the website!
@Sophie Libkind Great, thanks Sophie!
Okay, I can now add Nicoletta's description to my blog article advertising the 2022 Adjoint School.
If applicants get to say which project they want to do, they're less likely to choose a project with no description.

Thanks @John Baez!

I was also pretty worried about this but of the applications we have so far (a not insignificant fraction of the total we have gotten in previous years) applicant's "top pick's" are quite evenly distributed! But either way, the final project description will be up soon!
The project description for Filippo Bonchi's project is now up on the Adjoint School website! http://adjointschool.com/2022.html
@Sophie El Agami
Just a reminder that applications are due this Saturday, January 29, anywhere on earth!
I fail to understand how it would be possible to write down a decent application for this track in only two days. Maybe postpone the application deadline a bit?

I had forwarded the link to some of my peers and they said exactly this - Especially because the referee is supposed to comment on the relevance to applicant's research.
In any case, if everyone shares my belief that deadlines should be postponed, I'd suggest to avoid further problems by announcing it asap (that is, not on the 29th, after many people will have already submitted badly drafted applications in a hurry)
We're grateful to have already received many excellent applications for all of the projects, but we do want to make sure all applicants have a chance to put their best foot forward. That being said...
We are extending the application deadline to next Friday, February 4, anywhere on earth. We really appreciate everyone's patience, and we're looking forward to a great Adjoint School! If any applicants have specific questions or concerns, message me, or email the adjoint school at actadjointschool@gmail.com
We'll do another round of advertising and get in touch with everyone who submitted a pre-application to make sure the word gets around!
Very nice, thanks!
Great! I announced the change on Twitter, Azimuth and the n-Cafe.
Thank you so much, @John Baez!

Does anyone have any idea about the status of decision making process for the ACT2022 Adjoint School? I thought it'll be ok to post the question here.
Hi @Amartya, applications are being processed and we will in touch with all applicants by the end of February
Thanks a lot for the update.
