Topic: ACT 2020 template

Mainly directed at ACT 2020 committee members (like @Christina Vasilakopoulou @Jules Hedges @Fabrizio Genovese @John Baez).

I'm reading the CFP for ACT 2020 and I see that there is no specific requirement for a template. I suppose that this is not an omission and that we are free to choose our own (single-column) template, right?

I guess - I'm unaware of any such requirements, so I just uploaded a paper of mine for my own contribution.

The people in charge of this stuff are not the rank-and-file committee members; they are Jamie Vicary and David Spivak.

OK! It's somewhat bizarre, as the 5-12-page requirement can be wildly inconsistent without the point of reference a template provides.

It would be both cruel and stupid to have formatting requirements for submissions and not tell anyone.

I don't think stuffing as much as possible in 12 pages increases one's chance of getting a paper accepted! I sure hope not.

It might even have the opposite effect.

Anyway, I'll ask Jamie or David.

True, true! Last year's compositionality template (which looked stylish and cool, don't get be wrong) was very generous with their margins and that, along with that texas king-sized font, made the content very sparse.

So, I got an email (I think from Bob @Bob Coecke ) some time ago saying that proceedings of ACT2019 and (if I recall correctly) of ACT2020 would be taken care of by EPTCS. I don't know if this is the case for ACT2020 (it surely is for ACT2019), but I used the EPTCS template just to be sure.

Also, EPTCS is actually a much better template than others, it has good space/margins and doesn't throw a lot of errors/warnings when used.

Then I'll probably use those too!

Jamie Vicary and David Spivak assured me that no template is required for submitting papers to ACT2020, but also

These "pack it in" people don't seem to appreciate that angering your reviewers is not the way to get ahead!

Of course if your contribution to the conference gets accepted and then (in what's I believe a separate step) it gets accepted for publication, you'll eventually have to put it in some format - and I believe that's the EPTCS format.
