You're reading the public-facing archive of the Category Theory Zulip server.
To join the server you need an invite. Anybody can get an invite by contacting Matteo Capucci at name dot surname at gmail dot com.
For all things related to this archive refer to the same person.
The link I've been passing around, to invite people to this site, has expired:
https://categorytheory.zulipchat.com/join/6ueg2s9jv6o07eoqzwfdh79f/
Is there a way to get a new one that works? Will I need to keep getting a new one every weeks?
@John Baez: there's a button at the bottom of the user list on the right, which allows you to generate a new link
Thanks!
invitation links expire after 10 days
So this button lets me send an invitation via email to someone. I've been inviting lots of people on my blog.
I.e., inviting "the world".
Christian or someone gave me a link I could use to let lots of people join. I thought it worked... but anyway, it's expired now. How do I get something like this? (I can't invite myself and get a link that way.)
@John Baez: underneath the email field, there's a link called "Generate invite link"
I don't see anything like that. Maybe you have more power than me?
oh, maybe @Christian Williams needs to make you a moderator?
here's a link, in any case: https://categorytheory.zulipchat.com/join/ia4b73j86j6b5f7kol6qigsv/
Thanks! Yes, I'm not a moderator.
now you are :crystal_ball:
Thanks.
Oh wait, hold on.
When you generate an invite link, it lets you select what people will be subscribed to when they join.
Right now, most people have not been subscribing to a whole lot, so we're trying to encourage people to diversify.
So, when joining new people we're taking the approach of "if it could apply to anyone, then have it as a default."
I bet mainly people don't know they have to "subscribe".
Yes, even though we've been saying it. Things will get better as we make the guide on the webpage.
Anyway, I just put that new invitation in about 10 places.
Yes, but I'm asking whether you checked the boxes when you generated the invite.
When you click it, it only default subscribes them to general.
If not, I can go do that now and then give you the link here.
I didn't generate nothin'. I just used the invite someone just gave me.
Oh, @Nathanael Arkor. Maybe he remembered.
If you want you can try to make me copy a new invite into 10 different websites... but I don't think I will.
When you generate an invite link, it lets you select what people will be subscribed to when they join.
oh, I didn't spot this, sorry
I think it'd best in general to have people start out subscribed to everything, and make it easy for them (somehow) to know they can unsubscribe from stuff.
I agree. Here it is: https://categorytheory.zulipchat.com/join/7v4fvf4f8ecsc8701tuj5aaq/
I would like to invite a MD collaborator, interested in learning category theory, to this thought provoking zulipchat. His mail is
nunez.huasaf@gmail.com
Thanks
Jorge Soto-Andrade
I tried to send him an invite but I was told that email address already has an account.
@Javier Nunez-Huasaf , are you out there?
Hello Morgan, I am here! Thank you.
I'm MD, Psychiatrist and I'm interested in learning Category Theory and @Jorge Soto-Andrade told me about this group...
